For What Functions Can Smart Boards Be Used in Schools?

The era of "blackboards" and "whiteboards" is over at ERA Schools. These boards were replaced by “smart boards”. So, how and to what extent do smart boards increase the quality of education? ERA Schools Information Technologies Teacher Yunus Aydın explained the importance of smart boards and their usage types.

Today's children are now born with technology. Therefore, active use of technology for students both increases their motivation and reinforces permanent learning. Smart boards also have an important place in this regard.
However, it should not be forgotten that the smart board is not a magic wand! Unless teachers use smart boards for purposes other than just writing and watching videos, smart boards cannot go further than just being a video version of blackboards. For this reason, it is not important to have a smart board in the classroom, but how the teacher uses the smart board effectively.
At the 4th Educational Technologies Conference (ETP 2017), we told our teachers about the simulations and web 2.0 tools they can use on the smart board with our presentation "Ways of Using Smart Boards Effectively in All Branches". Let's examine these tools again together.

Document camera
You can add color to your lessons by projecting a test, text or a picture from your book onto the screen using the document camera on your smart boards.

Use of simulation on smart board
Simulation is simply imitating a system that we do not already have by using a computer or solving it manually. There are many simulations made in the field of education. Thanks to these simulations, it enables you to bring an experimental setup that is difficult to create, an environment that you cannot create in your classroom, or a material that is difficult to access, to your classroom in a digital environment.

PhET
Contains simulations created by the University of Colorado. You can log in to the site at https://phet.colorado.edu/tr/ and access the simulations. You can also download the entire site from https://phet.colorado.edu/tr/offline-access and do your work offline. There are over 300 million simulations in fields such as physics, chemistry, mathematics and earth sciences.
Microsoft Physics Illustrator
It is a physics simulator that you can use in classes.  You can do all kinds of physics experiments by making your own drawings with Microsoft Physics Illustrator.
 
Chrome apps
Chrome, Google's internet browser, also offers us some applications within its interface. This service, called "Google Chrome Web Store", makes Google's browser much more than just a browser. Although some applications only function as a link to the website, many applications work as an application integrated with Chrome. Thanks to the plug-ins you can add to Google Chrome, you can have many educational materials and simulations.
 
LearningApps.org
It is a 2.0 web application made to support education and training processes with interactive elements. New content can be given to existing elements, or new elements can be created online by users, and elements can be reshaped if necessary. The aim is to bring together reusable items and present them to the public.
You can create your own classes by becoming a member of LearningApps.org and thus, you can take your learning environment outside the classroom by sharing the applications you create with your students.
You can use the applications on LearningApps.org in all branches. Visual arts, mathematics, geography, literature, physics, philosophy and others…
At LearningApps.org, you can make many applications that will attract your students' attention and increase their interest in the lesson, such as matching game, placing the groups correctly, number line, matching on the picture, hangman, word stack, group puzzle, jigsaw puzzle, horse racing, who wants to be a millionaire.
