BEFORE WORLD WAR I

• 1881 - Born in Thessaloniki.
• 1893 - Mustafa Kemal entered the Military Secondary School.
• 1902 - Entered the Military Academy.
• 1905 - Graduated from the Military Academy with the rank of staff captain.
• 1907 - Joined the Committee of Union and Progress.
• 1909 - Served as chief of staff of the Action Army that suppressed the 31 March Uprising.
• 1911 - Volunteered to go to Tripolitania and became a major.
• 1912 - During the Balkan Wars, was appointed Director of the Operations Branch with the task of protecting the Dardanelles.
• 1913 - Appointed Military Attaché in Sofia.
• 1914 - Promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

DURING WORLD WAR I

• 1915 - Appointed Commander of the 19th Division in Tekirdağ.
• 1915 - Stopped the Allied Powers at Gallipoli and became a colonel.
• 1916 - Promoted to the rank of general; retook Muş and Bitlis from the Russians.
• 1918 - Became Commander of the Yıldırım Armies in Syria.

DURING THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

• 30 April 1919 - Appointed Inspector of the 9th Army.
• 19 May 1919 - Landed in Samsun.
• 28 May 1919 - Issued the Havza Circular.
• 22 June 1919 - Issued the Amasya Circular.
• 8 July 1919 - Resigned from military service.
• 23 July 1919 - Attended the Erzurum Congress.
• 7 August 1919 - Became head of the Representative Committee at the Erzurum Congress.
• 4 September 1919 - Attended the Sivas Congress.
• 20 October 1919 - Met with the Istanbul Government in Amasya.
• 7 November 1919 - Elected deputy for Erzurum.
• 27 December 1919 - Arrived in Ankara with the Representative Committee.
• 23 April 1920 - Opened the Grand National Assembly (TBMM) in Ankara.
• 24 April 1920 - Elected Speaker of the TBMM.
• 5 August 1921 - Became Commander-in-Chief and assumed the powers of the TBMM.
• 23 August 1921 - Directed the Battle of Sakarya.
• 19 September 1921 - Received the title of Gazi and the rank of Marshal.
• 26 August 1922 - Launched the Great Offensive.
• 29 January 1923 - Married Latife Hanım in Izmir.
• 17 February 1923 - Convened the Izmir Economic Congress.

DURING THE REPUBLICAN ERA

• 9 September 1923 - Founded the People's Party.
• 11 August 1923 - Opened the 2nd TBMM.
• 29 October 1923 - Proclaimed the Republic.
• 29 October 1923 - Became the 1st President of the Republic of Turkey.
• 15–20 October 1927 - Delivered the Great Speech (Nutuk).
• 1 November 1927 - Elected president for the 2nd time.
• 4 May 1931 - Became president for the 3rd time.
• 24 November 1934 - Took the surname "Atatürk".
• 1 March 1935 - Elected president for the 4th time.
• 10 November 1938 - Passed away at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.
• 20 November 1938 - His body was brought to Ankara.
• 27 November 1938 - His body was placed in the Ethnography Museum.
• 10 November 1953 - His body was transferred to Anıtkabir.
