ERA Colleges StudentFrom Little Inventor DoraInvention That Prevents Air Pollution and Produces Electricity
ERA Colleges student Dora Aldemir attended the "Do You Have an Idea?" program, which she attended as a spectator last year. This year, he presented his own project on the television program called. Dora's work, which prevents air pollution and saves electricity, ranked in the top 2 among more than 1000 projects. The 10-year-old inventor is waiting for financial and moral support from institutions such as TUBITAK and KOSGEB.
"Do You Have an Idea?" broadcast on 360 TV Participating in the program named Dora Aldemir competed with her project that can convert the inert heat released in factory chimneys into electricity thanks to Peltier. This creative idea, which saves electricity as well as preventing air pollution, managed to be among the top 2 projects by the jury evaluation among over a thousand ideas. Dora Aldemir, who studies at ERA Colleges Kağıthane Campus, says that she carried out meticulous work to project her ideas:
"First, I conduct a literature review related to the ideas. Then, I hold preliminary meetings with the relevant department professors at school and complete my research on the subject on the computer. If I feel the need, I get support from my school teachers for the laboratory. After the product is created, I conduct experiments and discuss the results with my teachers. Thus, I make all the necessary preparations for the real life of my idea."
The little inventor states that he gets inspiration for his inventions from documentaries and television programs about news and technology. He decided on the project of generating electricity from waste heat from factories while watching a documentary. Dora was inspired to learn that 600 degrees of the 1000 degrees of heat in factories was released into the air. He formed his idea by telling his father, Gökhan Aldemir, a physics teacher, and his mother, Derya Aldemir, a science teacher, who was also the coordinator of the project, and with the support of the subject teachers at ERA Colleges.
Electricity from Waste Heat…
The materials used by Dora Aldemir for her project that converts waste heat into electricity are 1 140 Watt thermoelectric converter, multimeter conductive cables, heat source and an ice tray. Aldemir explains his project with the following words: "I connected the peltier to the multimeter with conductive cables. I placed the peltier on the ice tray. And the peltier produced electricity due to the temperature difference." Explaining the economic benefit of the project, the successful student says, "I allocated a budget of 100 TL to do my project. Considering that I saved 2000 TL per chimney in the factories, I think it made a lot of profit in a short time. Peltier technology is used by companies selling products to convert electrical energy into heat energy. In the system I installed, waste heat in the factories is converted into electrical energy and savings are achieved."
Aldemir, who continues his education at ERA Colleges Kağıthane Campus, is very happy with the support of the School Principal Ümit Çelik and his teachers. The successful student, who wants to become an obstetrician when he grows up, wants to be given the opportunity to do research at universities to turn his ideas into products. It also expects financial and moral support from institutions such as TÜBİTAK and KOSGEB for the new projects it is developing.
The technological device that Dora feels she lacks the most in her daily life is a holographic wardrobe that will help her choose her clothes... This expectation of 10-year-old Dora, a bright, successful and creative girl, may inspire technology companies that make great efforts for innovation.
