The national STEM competition is an organization that competes the products resulting from workshops where the STEM approach is applied. STEM is a teaching method that brings together four disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
On Saturday, March 9, 2024, 352 teams, 1500 participants and 183 mentors competed fiercely in the day-long competition at ERA College Florya campus. The competitors built their balloon cars with the permitted materials in the first hour of the day, and raced their cars for the rest of the day. Vehicles moving with the air coming out of the balloon tried to go the farthest distance. In the competition organized as Groups, Quarter Finals and Finals, awards were found in the primary school, secondary school, high school and teacher categories.
In the competition, the super record award (given to the vehicle that went the farthest), the best mentor award (given to the mentor who established good relations with his own team and other mentors and teams), the best team award (given to attentive teams that reflect the excitement of the competition area and act with team spirit) and the best design award (given to artistic touches that will make their car stand out in vehicle design or designs that will affect aerodynamics) were given. In the competition, where a total of more than 100,000 TL was awarded, an award ceremony was held at the end of the day and the contestants were presented with trophies and medals.
In the statement made by Ahmed Bahadır ÖZDEMİR, chairman of the national STEM competition organizing committee,
"We are a team of educators, engineers and artists. For many years, we have carried out STEM trainings and organized practical workshops with teachers from different branches all over our country and sometimes abroad. We always had in the back of our minds to organize a competition of these applications and make science fun.
The point we focused on most while organizing the competition was to participate in the competition with "materials that are accessible to almost everyone." Because, as Türkiye's STEM competition, the more children, students and teachers we can reach, the more we will contribute to raising a generation that produces more. When we set out for this purpose, we completed this organization with plenty of participation and fun, with the strong support of our sponsors.
183 mentors participated in the competition with 352 teams. We organized a large organization with a total of 1500 participants. The cars traveled a total of 105,839 meters. and Approximately 10,686 Liters of air were blown. Best of all, teachers took part in a competition for the first time and competed with their colleagues in the teachers category.
We have already started working to organize a larger event next year, with more participants and different categories. You can follow the developments at www.ulusalstemyarismasi.com.
Lastly, we would like to thank ERA College, our main sponsor, Robotzade company, Englishtime Language Schools, Fuska Waters, Newtoys Mind and Intelligence games and Ginza Bungalov, who contributed to making our dream come true."
